Coordinate Geometry Test - Lesson Summary

Area of triangle =  1 2 x base x  altitude.

If a, b and c are sides of a triangle then its area is given by herons formula s( s - a)(s - b)(s - c) .

Area of a triangle even if its three vertices are given. If (x 1, y 1), (x 2, y 2) and (x 3, y 3) are the vertices of a triangle then its area is given by   1 2 [x 1(y 2 - y 3) + x 2( y 3 - y 1)+ x 3(y 1 - y 2)] square units.

If the area of triangle is zero then the points are called collinear points.

If three points (x 1, y 1), (x 2, y 2) and (x 3, y 3) are collinear then [x 1(y 2 - y 3) + x 2( y 3 - y 1)+ x 3(y 1 - y 2)] = 0.
